Managing Flexible Work Arrangements

In the twenty-first century, flexible working arrangements (FWA) are both vital and relevant in the workplace. Organizations have the challenge of balancing their employees’ work-life balance in order to reduce all of the problems that come with it while maintaining efficient and effective performance. As a result of the benefits associated with flexibility for both employees and employers, many businesses offer flexible working arrangements to their personnel. One of the most common benefits is greatly increased employee and organizational performance. It also promotes a healthy work-life balance, resulting in less stress and better wellbeing for employees, as well as lower absenteeism and staff turnover for the company (Stella et al., 2020).

Flexible work arrangements are any arrangements that allow an employee to work outside of conventional office hours or at a traditional work location. Flexibility can be achieved without modifying a department’s regular operating hours or altering managers’ responsibilities or power.

Types of flexible work arrangements

There are many different sorts of flexible work arrangements, and selecting the correct one might be crucial. It’s critical to understand the variations between the various sorts of flex agreements, whether you’re a manager or a job seeker.

Different arrangements may appeal to different types of employees or be more suited to various job descriptions. Regardless of which policy you choose, each one can serve to establish a sense of what is expected and encouraged.

1.      Telecommunication

2.      Remote working

3.      Condensed workweeks

4.      Personalized working hours

5.      Part-time positions

6.      Job sharing

7.      Flexible vacation time

Advantages of flexible work arrangements

Employees profit from flexible working arrangements in a variety of ways. Employees with more flexibility in their work schedules have more time to meet personal obligations. Employees are not required to skip work in order to spend time with their children, make repairs at home, or pursue personal interests.

Employee morale is likely to rise when employees are satisfied with their work-life balance. Flexible schedules reduce absenteeism in the workplace since employees are less likely to miss work. Employees that have greater flexibility are more likely to stay at your company, which improves retention (Bossart, 2016).

Disadvantages of flexible work arrangements

ü  Isolation is a problem for those who work from home.

ü  Concerns about trust and supervision.

ü  Distractions and non-work-related tasks are typical in a home environment.

Conclusion

Employee well-being can be improved by reducing stress and strengthening loyalty through flexible working arrangements.
